Squint (Strabismus) Correction in Jammu

Specialized diagnosis and treatment of ocular misalignment in children and adults by Dr. S.P. Sharma, recipient of the Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology Best Eye Surgeon recognition.

Clinical Overview

What is Squint (Strabismus)?

Squint is a condition where the eyes do not look in the same direction simultaneously. While one eye looks straight ahead, the other may turn inward (esotropia), outward (exotropia), upward, or downward.

If untreated during childhood, the brain suppresses the image from the misaligned eye, resulting in Amblyopia (lazy eye) and permanent loss of binocular 3D depth perception. At Drishti Eye Clinic in Jammu, Dr. S.P. Sharma combines advanced Synaptophore therapy with microsurgical muscle adjustment to re-establish true binocular alignment.

Recognizing Squint Signs

  • Eyes pointing in different directions or wandering.
  • Closing or squinting one eye in bright sunlight.
  • Tilting or turning the head to look at objects.
  • Double vision (diplopia) or difficulty judging depth/steps.
Therapeutic Solutions

Squint Correction Approaches

Both non-surgical and surgical modalities are tailored to the patient's age and deviation angle.

01

Corrective Spectacles

Accommodative squints caused by extreme hyperopia (farsightedness) can often be completely straightened simply by wearing customized prescription glasses.

02

Synaptophore & Orthoptics

Exercise therapy using our specialized Synaptophore unit strengthens weak binocular fusion and stimulates lazy eye recovery without surgery.

03

Strabismus Surgery

Precision surgical recession (weakening) or resection (strengthening) of the tiny extraocular muscles surrounding the eyeball to restore perfect alignment.

Squint Treatment FAQs

Expert guidance from Dr. S.P. Sharma

No. Squint surgery is strictly performed on the external muscles situated on the outer surface of the eyeball underneath the conjunctiva. The interior of the eye is never penetrated, making the procedure extremely safe.
The earlier squint is treated, the better the visual outcome. Children should ideally be evaluated as early as 1-3 years old so that lazy eye (amblyopia) can be prevented before the visual brain pathways mature around age 7-8.
